January Birthstone - Garnet

Those born in January are lucky to have the beautiful and diverse garnet as their birthstone. Garnets are commonly red but also come in an extraordinary range of other colours. It’s a beautiful gemstone to start the year with.

Given its name and rich red colour, garnet has understandably been assigned the same association with love as the mythical pomegranate. For couples celebrating their 18th wedding anniversary, for example, the garnet stone is often used as an alternative gift idea to the more traditional porcelain gift suggestion. Garnet is also the January birthstone, which makes garnet jewellery the perfect gift for January birthdays.

One of the most popular traditional jewellery stones, ruby is exceptionally durable. Its colours — always red — can reach vivid levels of saturation. Fine-quality rubies are some of the most expensive gemstones, with record prices over $1,000,000 per carat.

Real Garnets are used in sterling silver and gold jewellery while Glass Crystals and Rhinestones are used in Stainless Steel and Fashion Jewellery.
